Hey all, I’ll be co-hosting Likemind this Friday with ZD/Mailman partner Andrew Collins, and the guys over at CIC. I missed the last event (they start at 8:30am which is pretty freaking early… for me anyway); but did manage to attend the first which was great. If you’re truly looking to network face-to-face with a [...]

Hey all, I picked this up from LRB’s event forum – it’s an event sponsored by CIC data (the China word of mouth masters). If you have time – please drop on by. I’ll be there as well – assuming my alarm clock wakes me in time.
Also as a side note – I’m trying to [...]

Nextstep’s bouncers enforce a strict “networking” etiquette.
I had the opportunity to visits Nextstep’s latest event; “Online Advertising vs. Traditional Ads, last week on June 9th”. My impression of Nextstep was at first a bit mixed; I was wondering if it was yet another one of these networking meetings full of real estate agents, financial consultants, and headhunters. [...]

Donghua University; Are you more artistic than an earthworm?

06.15.2009 Donghua University

“Seek out anyone’s potential for art. If animals can become masters, so can you!”
Quite interesting art, with a bit of a “gross” factor; all art is made by creepy crawlies that would normally give you the heebie jeebies.
The pitch? “If bugs can make art, then so can you! Come to our art school”. Not so [...]

IBM; Fake door pasted on wall; Visually communicates how easy it is to receive tech support.

01.16.2009 Events

Sometimes dealing with tech support is like walking into a brick wall.
Great visual here; took me a little while to figure out that the “door” is just a huge sticker. Drives home the point that IBM tech support is close by, which assumes responsivness and good customer service (I hope).

Greenpeace; bringing out the drama of everyday toliet paper.

Toilet paper that makes you think while you poo.
Gotta say, PSA advertisements tend to be the most effective I’ve seen; especially those that speak across borders and elicit reactions from deeply recognized symbols. Guess it’s easier hit home with a global high-minded ethical message then it is to sell everyday toiletries; regardless of that glib [...]

Evolution; Turning your fat stomach into big breasts?

01.12.2009 Events

Ok I know that the idea is to create more strength on your upper body, but my first impression is that the stomach turned into breasts. However, once you give it a bit of thought, the idea is effective; though I’m sure customers wished turning their fat into muscle was as easy as flipping a [...]

DHL; Guerilla Advertising in China

12.10.2008 DHL

Great campaign; but my guess is that the delivery guy hated it. Seeing the mouse icon traveling around Shanghai on the backs of unfortunate couriers generates buzz and pushes the point that you can indeed track DHL packages anywhere.

Except than daily commercial bombardment, in late 2007, Shanghai metro travelers could find themselves a love drama being shown on the subway stations and trains several times a day. [...]
