I found this one in LRB’s forums; this is a great viral; it has all the elements to make it a success; first its low-cost which gives it a feeling of authenticity; next it’s got the WTF gut feel as the protagonist rips apart his girlfriends laptop, and then it finishes with a great twist, while introducing Dell’s product.

This is what you look for in a China viral campaign; an interesting story that drags you in, and finishes with a direct emotion tied to the product. Branding here is a mix of youth, experimentation, geekyness, love, and creativity; that’s not a bad position for Dell. Total view on Youku for the month 160,700.

That’s pretty good for organic spread via youku. But my guess is that it could get better with the right viral spread; using social media channels; though commercial in essence, may still apply, as this video is a value add entertainment to viewers; that gives the commercial message an edge and a reason to coexisit with user generated content.

Truly great, gutting a laptop with the skill of a surgeon, then creating an unforgettable metaphor. Of course, the irony of the background song, a farewell to thin as opposed to the new super-thin. Well done!

Ya i agree the pacing is great and the surprise at the end is excellent as well. Great example of low production plus big idea.
