Welcome back to class; for those of you who are still here, Social Media 101 applauds you!  It’s safe to say you enjoy satisfying your statistical palette.  To re-satisfy your appetite, please revisit Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

Reason 7:  233 million mobile Internet users

I'm getting married!

Heyyy I'm getting married...what YOU doing?

Brilliant!  This is rarely discussed in the realm of social media.  The greater the number of MIU (mobile Internet users) equates to an increase in reengagement results (the cornerstone of of Social Media KPIs).

I think we can all agree that the United States is sort of the global-everything standard.  That said, we’ll compare China’s their numbers.

This report states that by 2013, the United States’ MIU will grow 82% over its current number.  At 182% its current number, they’re looking at 143 million in 3 years.  Is that all?

Compare this to the current numbers here in China:  233 million MIU.  This number grew by ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY MILLION users in 2009 alone–and that is a year without any significant network technology upgrades.

Take 2010 for example, China Mobile–the world’s largest cell phone provider by subscriber–is rolling out China’s first 4G network.  Significant upgrades cause significant change and you can look for the number of mobile Internet users to increase more than 120 million subscribers in 2010.

At a linear rate, there will be 593 million mobile Internet subscribers by 2013.  How accurate are these numbers?

Currently the population of the United States compared to China is:  307,006,550/1,325,639,982 = 23.16%

Taking our estimation of mobile Internet users in 2013 between the two countries:  143 million/593 million = 24.11%

Looking good!  But take a look at the two underlined numbers. ^^

What does this mean?  China will have more MOBILE Internet users than the entire population of the United States.  And with immigration reform on hold, very soon.

Stay tuned for part 5!
